Dr. Lull in the classroom
I have taught for 14 years at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
My courses range from public speaking for first-year honors students (Public Communication and Civic Engagement) to graduate seminars in research methods and communication theory.
I’m fond of open educational resources (OER), using curated reading lists instead of textbooks for many of my courses. Mindful of different learning styles, I use podcasts and video frequently.
OER worth sharing:
KQED Forum (September 2022): “A Tech Startup Removes Accents from Call Center Workers’ Speech. Does that Mask Bigger Problems?” (Communication Accommodation Theory)
NPR Short Wave (September 2022): “Working with Tribes to Co-steward National Parks” (Intersections of western science and traditional ecological knowledge)
What Next: TBD (May 2022): “Online Privacy in a Post-Roe World” (Privacy and Surveillance Capitalism)
I’m always excited to talk about teaching – reach out if you have suggestions or are looking for resources.
